PRESS JUBILEE

Per Press Association. TIMARU, Feb. 20. In the Municipal Chambers to-night, the Mayor, Mr \V. Angland, extended a welcome on behalf of the citizens to tho visiting Pressmen. He congratulated the members of the Press Association on having met to celebrate the jubilee, and paid tribute to the great work done by the late Sir George Fenwick, stating that tho progress of tho association would ever be a monument to him. Ho also stressed the great part newspapers played in the welfare of the country generally. Mr C. W. Earle, C.M.G., president of tho Newspaper Proprietors’ Association, in acknowledging the welcome, expressed regret that Sir George-Fen-wick had not been spared to attend the jubilee. The members leave for the Hermitage, Mt. Cook, to-morrow where the remaining meetings will be held.
