POHANGINA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, Sept. 11. On Monday evening the young people of Pohangina and district gave a .social and dance and “kitchen” tea in tho local hall to Miss May Wagslalf, whoso marriage takes place shortly. A most enjoyable time was spent in dancing, games and competitions, while Miss M. Balmcr and Mr A. Balmcr contributed vocal solos which were very much cnjioyed by all. A competition of dressmaking for men caused much fun, the gentlemen showing talent in that capacity. The winner was Mr A. Balmcr and second Mr Geo. WagstatT, junr. A spot waltz was won by Miss M. Balmcr and Mr Galvin. On behalf of those present, Mr Geo. Passey made the presentation, and in doing so referred to Miss Wagstaff’s popu-
larity in the district where she had resided all her life. In social and all other functions she would be greatly missed, but on her departure would carry with her the best wishes of her many friends here. Ho then called on Miss Wagstaff, who, assisted b, Mr Geo. Wagstaff, proceeded to unwri'm the many parcels, which revealed many useful presents. 'Mr Wagstaff, senr., Suitably replied on behalf of hi 6 daughter and those present, coupling Miss AVagstafl’s name with that, of Mr Stewart Hunter, who was unavoidably absent, sang heartily, “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” A very dainty supper was served and soon after a pleasant evening was terminated with tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” D.F.U. MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Pohangina Valley brunch of tho Dairy Farmers’ Union was held in the Pohangina Hall on Saturday evening. Mr J. D. Balmcr presided over a good attendance. Tho minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed and the monthly report of the executive committee was discussed. Dental clinics: Following* tho discussion on the school dental clinics, Air Rowbotham moved: “That this branch is of the opinion that the school dental service should ho extended so as to includo all country schools.” This was seconded by Air Passey and carried unanimously. Pure seeds bill: The president stated that tho question of a pure seeds bill, which had originated from this branch, had received unanimous support from the Dairy Farmers’ Union, and the Farmers’ Union, and a pure seeds bill would be brought before the House next session.
