GEORGE COOK DEFEATED

(Australian Press Association.) NEW \ r ORK, Sept. 2. George Cook, tlie Australian heavyweight, was [defeated by loung Striblin'g in a contest at Aiacon, Georgia, co-night.

The early rounds were fairly even, but slightly in Stnbling’s favour. In the fifth round Stribling rushed Cook and had him hanging on the ropes. Cook appeared to be tiring. In the sixth round Stribling drew blood from Cook’s face, and in tlie seventh a heavy right to thq jaw put Cook down for a count of four. After this Stribling punished the Australian severely. Cook was groggy and fought wildiy, with blood gushing from his face. The referee threatened to stop the fight, and called a doctor. After the doctor had made an examination the Australian’s seconds threw in the towel.

In a ten-round contest at Kansas City in July, Stribbling gained the decision over Cook.

NEW YORK, Sept. 2. Loughran announces the surrender of the light-heavyweight boxing title. He will ask the New York Boxing Commission to recognise the winner of the Loughran-Sharkey fight as the heavy-weight champion in succession to Tunney.
