PROGRESS AT FOREST HILLS. (Australian Press Association. —United Service.) Received August 24, 12.55 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 23. Mrs Coveil and Mrs ShepherdBarron beat Mrs Harper and Miss Edith Cross, I—6, 6—4, 6—2 in the semi-final of the doubles. The defeat, of Mrs Harper and Miss Cross was due to the steadiness of the English women. Miss Cross’s magnificent volleying in the first set was something she was unable to continue, and ;this, coupled with Mrs Harper’s unsteadiness, aaused the Americans’ attack to crumble before their opponents’ onslaught.
