DAMAGED ROADS.

SLOW PROGRESS WITH REPAIRS. Per Press Association. NELSON’, Aug. 22. As the result of a large deputation of settlers and business men which waited on the Murchison County Council to-day, at which a protest was made against the slow progress Being made in opening up roads and the uncertainty as to when by-roads would be open for vehicular traffic, the council forwarded the following telegram to the Prime Minister: “A large deputation of settlers representing all parts of Murchison County, waited on the council and expressed resentment and indignation at the present unsatisfactory position regarding the restoration of road access. They complained especially concerning the uncertainty which exists as to when and by what means the roads are to be re-o'pened. Much loss and inconvenience must result unless prompt action is taken as the dairying season has commenced. Therefore, we earnestly appeal to yor. and your colleagues to meet the position without delay,_ feeling sure you will recognise that’ the repairing of earthquake damage to roads is quite beyond the means of the council.”
