FIRE AT PAHIATUA.
MAYOR’S HOUSE DESTROYED

PAHI ATUA, Aug. 23. A seven-roomed residence owned and occupied by Mr J. D, Wilson, the Mayor of Pahiatua, was destroyed by fire, also the contents, at rten o’clock last night. The house is covered by £750, and the furniture by £230. The water pressure was poor, and the residence was soon enveloped in flames. There was nothing saved. Mr Wilson had many valuable belongings, and is a heavy loser.
The occupants were absent at the time at the Plunket Society’s ball. The crowd of spectators included many in ballroom attire.
