WANTED-EIGHTY RABBITS.

MANAWATU BOARD UNABLE TO SUPPLY THEM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, July 26.

At tho monthly meeting of tho Manawatu Rabbit Board, the inspector (Mr D. R. Barron) reported that ho had received a letter from Professor H. B. Kirk stating that he would bo grateful if the inspector could get a trapper to forward forty livo, undamaged rabbits to the Victoria College by 9th September, to bo followed by a further consignment of forty on September 30th for tho training of the students in tho biological department of tho university. Tho inspector said that at present there was not a trapper in the board’s district. He had approached several people on the matter and had pointed out that the college was prepared to pay up to 3s each for rabbits and all transit charges. Ono person had informed him that ho know where ono rabbit was, but ho had no idea where ho would bo able to get the rest. Tho inspector said that there was a possibility of getting tho rabbits from tho Rangitikei River bed.

Trustee Grammar said ho know of some outside the board’s area on the banks of tho Oroua River.

Trustee Cooke (Government stock inspector) said that ho had not seen a rabbit for some time now.

Tho inspector said that stoats, weasels and wild cats were keeping tho few rabbits in the board’s district down now.

It was decided to write to Professor Kirk that there were no rabbits available in tho board’s district.
