SATURDAY’S GAMES

FLOCK HOUSE IN TOWN

Flock House played their second soccer league game in town this season on Saturday, when they were defeated by St. Andrew’s. Unfortunately, the bus that brought them in broke down on Mount Stewart, the game consequently commencing an hour late. Short time had to be played. Athletic had a hard struggle against Rangers, but It.S.A. disposed of Fcilding comparatively easily. RESULTS AT A GLANCE. Senior. St. Andrew’s 5 v. Flock House 1. Athletic 5 v. Rangers 3. R.S.A. 5 v. SENIOR LEAGUE TABLE.

HARD GAME. ST. ANDREW’S BEAT FLOCK HOUSE. FIVE GOALS TO ONE. A very strenuously contested -game, the Flock House-St. Andrew’s match did not provide good football, though from whistle to whistle it was packed with interest. The Saints won on their merits, but tho five goals to one margin did not fairly indicate the trend of the game. St. Andrew’s, with their long passing, disorganised the House team, however, and always had the game in hand. The elevens took the field as under: St. Andrew’s (blue and white).— Chilton, Brown, Young, Jacques Corkindale, Coombs, McKenzie, Lyon, Kennedy, MeSheffery, Beeeham. Flock House (red).—Bush, Hockey, Munting, Iverson, John, Campbell, Gibson, Garner, Jeromson, Goodall, Bennett. . The game opened sensationally. From tho kick-off St. Andrew’s, who were playing with tho wind, went straight to the attack and Bush was tested to clear well out. McKenzie from thirty yards out tried a firsttime shot which went home. Tho House were kept in their own half for a period till, with a sparkling forward movement, they went up to striking distance. Back stormed the Saints and Beeeham tried a lovely snap-shoot, Bush saving brilliantly. Continued play in front of the reds’ goal saw Coombs send tho ball home to put the Saints two up. St. Andrew’s 2, Flock House 0.

Almost immediately Flock Houso made a strong forward movement. John took a shot from about forty yards out, the ball travelling dead straight to strike the cross-bar. It bounced downwards and as Chilton went for it his attention was momentarily distracted by an offside red man. He fumbled for the leather to bounce through. The. referee gave St. Andrew’s a free kick, his decision meeting with a mixed reception. Again Flock House went away, Goodall piercing tho defence beforo passing to his inside right who, however, slipped, the blue defence clearing. Tho Saints yielded a corner. From the resultant play Coombs fouled. John took the kick, a beautiful shot again striking the bar. The blues cleared and swung to tho attack once more and Lyons followed through fast to bo given a shot at goal which he made the most of. St. Andrew’s 3, Flock House 0. Not discouraged the reds were seen in action again, the forwards combining nicely. John got his chance from a scramble, his beautiful shot being never in doubt. St. Andrew’s 3, Flock House 1. John had now gone up from centrehalf to centre-forward. The House were concentrating on attack. First one sot of forwards and then another went away. The Saints were nearly in again when one of their forwards tried a hard shot. Bush, however, threw himself full length to tip the leather round the corner of the net, and the reds cleared from the corner. Tho visiting forwards were playing pretty football, but the blue defence was equal to all calls upon it. MeSheffery made a great run down the line, beating Hockey after the latter had made a good tackle. The diminutive forward, then tried a difficult' angle shot which sailed absolutely true. Bush, with a leap, cleared for McKenzie to try a header which was just too high. The reds again made a move and John initiated a pretty movement, but the left winger was too far away to get a good opportunity to goal, the blues saving at the expense of a corner. Half-time came with the score unchanged. St. Andrew’s 3, Flock Houso 1.

After a desultory blue attack following the recommencement, the House made a determined attack,- but the Saints’ defence held. McSheffery made a brilliant solo run and shot. Bush came right out to clear and was then back to successfully save from Lyons, who had come right in. After a further period of blue domination the reds moved forward to the other side of half-way. John tried a shot from a long way out. The ball completely beat Chilton, but struck the post to bounce behind. Goodall broke away with a dangerous run but Young tackled him hard to clear to touch. The Saints now took a bigger share of the game, Lyons being prominent. His reward for unceasingly hard work came when Hunting cleared towards him and he went in to shoot a beautiful goal. St. Andrew’s 4, Flock House 1. Goodall tried a solo call, but Young was again a stumbling block, conceding, however, a corner. Corkindale cleared to Lyons, the leather going across to Kennedy and McSheffery, when a House back kicked behind. Play returned to midfield, Flock House holding a slight advantage. A combined red movement gave John his chance, but for once his shot lacked sting. Goodall, from the extreme left wing, tested Chilton with a corner shot. Then Chilton was bombarded for a While until Corkindale let McKenzie away, Hockey intercepting a centre to halt a dangerous movement. The blues continued on the offensive and, in the gathering dusk, a red back kicked through his own goal. The last exchanges, in semi-darkness, were fairly even, full time being blown with the tallies: St. Andrew’s 5, Flock House 1, Mr Corrie refereed. CLOSE GAME. RANGERS’ GOOD DISPLAY. Rangers gave their best display to date, to-day, when they gave Athletic a close run, At half-time the fiepte

was three all, the colts having led 3-1 at one stage. After the change-over, the older team gradually asserted their superiority to add two more goals. For the winners, Watt (2), T. Crowe (2) and Aird scored, while Carnell (2) and Gear found the net for Rangers. AT FEILDING. R.S.A. WIN EASILY. R.S.A. found no difficulty in disposing of the newly-formed Feilding team* winning by five goals to one. Five players scored one goal each for the winners, viz., Young, South, McAvinuefi J. Crowe and Morgan. Chapman scored for Feilding. RESULTS IN OTHER CENTRES. ,
