FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, June 8. The new elected advisory board to the local branch of the Plunket Society met on Friday evening when Mr D. Christie was appointed chairman and Mr Hewott hon. secretary. Certain recommendations were drawn up to be submitted to the society at its next meeting. Mr W. Roach, of the local Bank of New Zealand staff, underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Palmerston North Hospital on Friday night. He is progressing favourably. The funeral of the lato Mr E. A. W. Osborne took place on Thursday afternoon. A short service was hold at the home of Mr Harold Osborne by Revs. P. J. Mairs and Edmondson prior to the cortege leaving for Shannon where the interment took place. Mr E. Tregonning, clerk at the local railway station, was entertained at a social gathering in the Town Hall supper room on Thursday evening by members of the railway staff and business pciople prior to his departure on transfer to To Awamutu. Mr Martin (stationmastor) presided and referred with regret to the departure of the guest who, by the efficient and courteous discharge of his duties during his connection with the local station for a period of upwards of three years, had won tho esteem and respect of all with whom he had come into contact. He wished both Mr and Mrs Tregonning health and prosperity in their new home. Messrs G. F. Smith and R. N. Speirs, on behalf of tho business people, Mr J. M. Thomson on behalf of the local cariiers, and Mr R. MayeV, on behalf of the shipping people, all expressed regret at the guest’s departure and endorsed the chairman’s eulogistic remarks On behalf of thoso represented Mr Tregonning was presented with a travelling rug and silver tea pot for Mrs Tregonning. Mr Tregonning, in acknowledging the kind expressions and tokens of esteem, said lie regretted parting with so many friends with whom it had been a pleasure to be associated.
