THE ROYAL SHOW.

CENTRALISATION PROPOSAL. AUCKLAND PROTEST RENEWED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, June 7. The protest recently made by the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association against the suggestion that the Royal Show should be centralised in Wellington was renewed at the meeting of the council of the association. A letter from the Royal Society confirmed the earlier newspaper reports oi the suggestion and stated that two proposals were now being investigated, that the Royal Show should be held annually at either the grounds of the Wellington Show Association or oil an area procurable at Lyall Bay, Wellington. Mr J. P. Kalaugher said that the Lyall Bay proposal was an economic impossibility. Suitable accommodation there would involve an outlay of £30,000 to £40,000. ■ A voice: £IOO,OOO. It might be possible to hold a show on the grounds of the Wellington Association, said Mr Kalaugher, but there was hardly sufficient room there for an effective display. Mr A. W. Perkins said that he had received advice that a suitable area at Lyall Bay could be rented reasonably from the Wellington City Council. The president (Mr J. Mitchell) said that the Auckland Association had already entered its protest against any proposal to centralise the Royal Show. The meeting agreed that the Auckland point of view was unchanged and the letter from the Royal Society was formally received.
