DEVIATION WORK.
ANOTHER TWO MONTHS. Although nearly two months have elapsed since construction work on the Palmerston North railway deviation was suspended, there are still some fifty men engaged in the subsequent collection and storage of material which were undertaken. Ten are however, to proceed to Gisborne and Napier toAll the construction work which it was necessary to finish m order to leave things in a satisfactory state of repair, and minimise the risk ot deterioration, has been completed, while about four miles of: railway line have been torn up. .. , Six miles of rails have still to be taken up, and it is anticipated that men will be employed for another two months. Practically all the heavy machinery has been forwarded to othei centres, only a locomotive and * crane remaining. '
