(By Telegraph—Special to Standard.)
AUCKLAND, Juno 3. A small boy escaped serious injury when giving with some companions in a Ponsonby street to-day. His ball rolled through the iron grating of a gutter sewer. Tugging* at the heavy grating, the boy had muiged to tilt it, when suddenly he fell in. The incident was noticed by a passing motorist, who rescued the child, who was then up to his chest in water. Apart from sustaining a few cuts the boy seemed little the worse for his experience.
