AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.
AT BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL,
In view of the statements of the Minister of Education stressing the importance of agricultural teaching in an education policy, the following paragraph from the Education Department’s recent inspection report on the Palmerston North Boys’ High School is of interest: — “The agricultural course,” the report states, “has for some years past been more successful in this school than in most others in the Dominion. Its popularity continues, no doubt in part owing to the interest created locally by the establishment of the Massey Agricultural College; at the same time, the energy and the enthusiasm ‘of the instructor and capable organisation of the course have undoubtedly contributed to the sustained interest in the subject. Unusually, full opportunities are offered to boys who are definitely taking up farming as their life’s work. The possibility of benefiting from the nearness of Massey College has not been overlooked and several observational visits have already been made to that institution.
