UNUSUAL CATCH.
STINGRAY ON LINE. * (By Telegraph —Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, May 16. An unusual catch .and one which provided plenty of excitement on the cruiser Diomede at Devonport was that of a large stingray which was hooked by Stoker Petty Officer Harper about half past six o’clock this evening. In company wish .other members or the crew, and using an ordinary line, he was fishing from the forecastle when he hooked the fish.--. Interest grew among the crew when the nature of the catch was ascertained. A whaleboat was launched and a v > dozen men armed with hooks of various descriptions assisted tq t land the stingray. It w.as a large one of considerable span and weighed 240 pounds. (!'■ .; ■
