On the motion of Mr J. McFarland, the executive of the Manawatu-Oroua branch of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association to-day carried by acclamation a vote of appreciation to Professor ltiddet, of Massey College, for the assistance he is giving them. The chairman of the Hospital Board, Bir Jas. Wilson, was unable to preside at the meeting this afternoon owing to illness. Sympathetic reference was made to Sir James’s indisposition and it was decided to forward him a letter of sympathy and to wish him a speedy return to health.

Mr D. W. Westenra, a member of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was elected yesterday as the representative of the Canterbury district, on the Board of Agriculture. Mr 'J,lines Carr, of Methven, was also nominated for the position, but on a ballot being taken, Mr Westenra was elected. A Press Association telegram announces the death at his homestead, “Ounuwhao,” Tangowahine, of Mr Edwin Harding, aged 66 years ; the son of the late Mr John Harding, of Mount Vernon, Hawke’s Bay.
