(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, April 10. Miss Connie Evans has. joined the hos£ital staff at Dannevirke. Mrs 0. J. I'Ath, who is in hospital at Palmerston North, is grogressing and should be able to leave the- institution this week. The death took place at Upper Hutt of Mr Jacob Geange, well-known in this district. ’Jleceasod was 58 years of age. Constable Satherley received a telephone message from Te Horo that a man in charge of a car, was helplessly drunk. Constable Garran went to Te Horo and brought the man into the police station. Jle found the car on the side of the road, and the man in a very muddled state •with five full bottles 'of beer and one partly consumed. Yesterday morning the man, who has a wife and five children depending on him, was charged with being drunk while in charge of a car, and with having no license. He was a stranger to the district. Messrs O’Rourke and Nicoleon, J.P.’s, who were on the bench, fined him £5 on the first charge, and £1 and costs on the second. _ On Monday evening a collision occurred between a bus driven by Mr Matenga Baker and a lorry driven by Mr William Edward Gilbertson, of Ohau. The latter "was driving hie lorry from Iti Street into Aotaki Street, and was just about to turn the corner when the motor-bus, returning from the 5.17 p.m. train, came along Aotaki Street. There was a crash, but the lorry, by far the lighter vehicle, came off seoond best. One Bide was badly damaged and a tyre on the opposite side torn ©lf The impact carried the lorry halfway across the road. Th» bus escaped jy-ith minor damage.
