COUNTY ENGINEER.

APPOINTMENT CONFIRMED. MR BOND’S SERVICES EULOGISED. The appointment of Mr H. V. Bond as engineer to the Manawatu County Council was confirmed at yesterday’s meeting of the council. In moving that Mr Bond be appointed chief executive officer of the engineer’s department of the council, the chairman (Cr. Barber) said that Mr Bond had been acting-engineer to the county for more than a year and previous to that ho had had seven months’ duty as county overseer. Mr Bond’s probationary period had been particularly onerous as he had come to the service of the council at a time when the roads were rapidly giving way before the heavy traffic demands upon them. He had plunged into his work with vigour, and during the past twelve months he had pushed ahead steadily with the county’s reading programme, and the chairman was glad to be able to say that if something like the same ’amount of work were done this year the council would be able to rest on its oars. In appointing Mr Bond as engineer, Cr Barber felt sure that they were securing the services of an efficient and conscientious official and one Who would protect cand further their interests. The motion of appointment was seconded by Cr. Hunt and other members of the oouncil also spoke in support of the motion. Mr Bond later thanked the council for the honour conferred on him.
