POSTAGE STAMPS.

COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, April 8. For the second time only in its history the British Post Office is about to issue commemorative postage stamps. The British Post Office, which introduced postage stamps, lias since 1840 preserved a uniform attitude averse from the use of stamps for commemorative or similar purposes. In connection, however,, with the Postal Union Convention, which assembles in a few weeks in London, five kinds of stamps are to be on sale at all post offices for three months in place of those of the ordinary design. Their values are to be halfpenny, three halfpenny, twopence halfpenny, and one pound. It is interesting to note the revival of the one pound stamp. Issues of adhesive stamps of this value were abolished 14 years ago. The revival is for this occasion only. It is expected that there will be a keen demand for this issue by philatelists.
