WORLD’S COAL.

LESS BEING USED FOR POWER PURPOSES. (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, April 9. According to the report of last year’s World Power Conference, the world during 1927, used for power purposes 400,000,000 tons less coal than during 1913. Until a few decades ago coal represented the main power-producing material, but during 15 years the situation lias changed through the development of oil, the utilisation of water power, and the sicentific combustion of low-grade fuels such as brown coal. The conference estimates that the world’s coal resources based on the production of 1276 mililon tons during 1927, will last at least 4000 years.
