HOSPITAL EATING

POSSIBLE ALTERATION. FAIRER BASIS REQUIRED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 9. The assurance that he recognises the necessity for evolving a better system of hospital rating, and that personally he will leave no stone unturned to give statutory effect to a fairer basis.of taxation should the system be found which is in the interests of all local authorities, was given by the Minister, of Health, Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, to a deputation ■ representing the majority of the counties of the South Island! He said that he appreciated the case put by the deputation, but he would have to analyse the position further. They would not be satisfied until they got a more equitable basis of rating. If he was given time as Minister of Health a serious effort would be made to bring about a better basis for hospital finances. The Government had a tremendous programme almad of it, but he was satisfied that it was absolutely imperative that we should evolve the best hospital rating system possible. He thought that if a scheme was brought down it would be a good course for it to be submitted to a conference of local bodies before being adopted.
