THRILLING DESCENT.

LUCKY PARACHUTIST. Received April 2 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY April 2. A thrilling parachute descent was witnessed at Penrith to-day. Bruce Shipway, a pilot, leapt from a plane at a height of 3400 feet and fell 2000 feet before he was able to make the parachute open. The release appliance broke off during the fall, and Shipway had to unfasten the parachute himself. He eventually came safely to the ground, in the bed of a creek. The parachutist caused a herd of cattle grazing in the vicinity to stampede.
