HARBOUR SWIM.
UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 30. Miss Lily Copplestone failed to-day in an effort to swim Wellington Harbour. doing about three miles and being in the water two and a-half hours. The water was too rough and cold and choppy. She was accompanied part of the way by Miss Tv. Miller, Miss Lambert and G. Rose. ' Miss Copplestone was not distressed when taken out of the water, but the accompanying boat was not large enough to afford her any protection as it went along on the windward side. The day itself was. very cold and unsuitable for distance swimming. The Eastbourne Borough Council’s Muritai, which took passengers to view the race, had difficulty in getting clear of the ferry wharf. It was swung by the wind on to the Wahine and grazed along half of that vessel’s length before getting clear. There was no damage to either vessel. A motor launch that was also going across across watching the swim fouled a rope round the propeller.
