DEARTH OF MEN.

PRESBYTERIAN MINISTRY. ' ABUNDANCE OF MONEY. DUNEDIN, March 30. Speaking at a meeting of the Otago and Southland Presbyterian Synod, Professor Davis said that, in view of the fact that there was a dearth of ministers of the Presbyterian Church in many parts of the world, he wondered if it would be wise for them to call a halt or in any way to discourage men from entering the ministry. He had recently been in Australia and had found that the position of the Church in New South Wales was really serious. There was a dearth of ministers and a vast amount of work to be done. It was not a question of money—they seemed to have a superabundance of that. There was a dearth of men. If they had men here and the Church was rich enough to train them, should they not encourage men to go to Australia? He had been told that opportunities in Australia were tremendous. New Zealand had men and Australia had opportunities, and he thought they should not discourage young men from entering the Church.
