ANNUAL GATHERING. AT SHOWGROUNDS TO-DAY. The twenty-fifth annual sports ol the Manawatu and West Coast Caledonian Society were held at the Showgrounds to-day. Tho weather was cool and overcast with a threat of rain. Completo arrangements had been made for the efficient dispatch of a lengthy programme. The schedule of events was varied, and gave scope, to competitors having skill in pipe music, dancing, running, jumping and cycling, tossing tile caber, putting the shot, etc. Juvenile competitors were especially provided for by the inclusion of primary schools’ events, for which, heavy entries were received. Tho officials who had charge of the conduct of the meeting were as follow: Starter, Mr F. W. Aisher; timekeeper, Mr N. D. Stubbs; liandicappers, school events, Mr A. W. Thompson; amateur running, Mr T. Stubbs; amateur cycling, Mr J. A. Cooksley; judges, cycling and running, Major Ashworth, Messrs A. Matheson, D. Buchanan; jumping, Mr T. Stubbs; referee, amateur running and cycling events, Mr J. A. Cooksley; lap steward, R. Weston; wrestling, amateur, Mr A. Anderson; dancing, Messrs R. Burns, N. MacKenzie-Forbes, D. McLennan; pipe music, Mr A. McLeod. Tho Highland Pipe Band was in attendance and played throughout the day. CHILDREN’S RACES. Results of the various events were as follow: — .
