BRITISH CHARACTER.
AMERICAN AMBASSADOR’S TRIBUTE. (British Official Wireless). Received March 30, 9.5 a.m. RUGBY, March 27. The United States Ambassador in London, Mr Alanson B. Houghton, who is relinquishing his post, paid a warm tribute to Britain in a speech he delivered in London last night. Mr Houghton spoke of “the deep and fervent patriotism, the sense of justice, love of freedom and order, the instinct for public service, insistence on fair play, and dogged and unconquerable courage” which, he said, were the qualities of the British character.
