RONGOTEA
(From Our Own Correspondent). RONGOTEA, March 2. The annual meeting of the Rongotea branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held on Friday evening when there were present Messrs A. G. Dear (president), J. Gloyn senr., W. C. Gloyn, R. Craig, and the secretary (Mr H. V. Caverhill). The banking account of the branch showed a satisfactory credit balance. The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mr A. G. Dear (reelected) ; provincial delegate, Mr R. Craig; secretary, Mr H. V. Caverhill; committee, Messrs J. Gloyn senr.. W. C. Gloyn, J. Howe, J. Powell, E. R. Gennills, R. Craig, H. H. Hunt (with power to add). Mr Roy Craig was elected a new member. Messrs. A. G. Dear, W. C. Gloyn and H. V. Caverhill were appointed to operate on the branch’s bank account at the Bank of New Zealand, Rongotea. Mr Craig suggested that a social evening be arranged for the purpose of stimulating interest in the activities of the branch. It was decided that a meeting of the committee be held in the last week in _ March to make arrangements for a social in April. It is disappointing that the meeting was not more fully attended as there are between 40 and 50 financial members of the branch and the meeting was not representative of this large membership. Some years ago, when the branch was first formed, the membership stood at 60. It is not generally known, but, nevertheless, it is a fact that the saleyards at Rofigotea were erected as a result of efforts made by the branch. It is - the intention of the branch to ask officers from the Department of Agriculture to address those farmers present at the social evenings, regarding topdressing and topics of vital interest to farmers in general. In that way the pleasure of the social evenings will be added to by the eductional and instructive benefits which will be derived from the addresses.
