BAND CONTEST.
BOYS’ SOLO DECIDED. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, March 1. The band contest was continued this morning. The boys’ solo, under 17, own choice, resulted : E. Williams, Woolston (trombone) 98 1 Norman Marsli, Taranaki Regt. (cornet) 90 2 J. Buckley, Queen Alexandra (cornet) 85 3 Also competed: T. Lees (Ashburton) 73, It. D. Hawkins (Hawera) 79, Iv. Gould (Hawera) 81, T. Murdock (New Plymouth) 79, F. Sykes (New Plymouth) 70, W. Lowe (New Plymouth) 73, S. Pearson (Masterton) 82, H. Henderson (Waihi) 80, G. Bergerson (Palmerston Garrison) 75, R. ltuddliall (Gre\j«iouth) 75, A. McMaster (Greymouth) 78, R. McMaster (Greymouthj 79, J. Boyce (Port Nicholson) 80, S. Crisp (Woolston) 84, H. Watson (Christchurch) 65, ■N. D’Ath (Feilding)' 74. The judge, Mr Trussed, said that he was very well pleased with the performers, and a number of the boys were going lo make very promising players. The winner gave a wonderful performance, and, if ho were a sporting man and inclined to speculate a little, he would say that lie was the finest boy trombone player in the .Southern Hemisphere. He takes the prize also for artistic rendering, and it was certainly very artistic. The judge also made complimentary reference to the second and third players, but the latter, however, was inclined to race.
