3.45 P.M. EDITION
PETITION LODGED. SEVERAL ALLEGATIONS DIADE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 22. The petition by supporters of Dir Allen Bell against the return of Mr H. M. Rushworth: for the Bay of Islands seat sets out twenty grounds on which it is claimed that tlie election should be declared void. The petition alleges that several ballot papers which were wrongly marked were treated as valid at the magisterial recount, when Dir Rushworth was declared elected by two votes, and that other papers held by the magistrate to be valid are considered by the petitioner (William DlcAuley) to be invalid. There are also allegations of plural voting and of voting by Dlaoris who have their own election. Irregularities in the official count are also alleged.
