ANOTHER CLASH WITH ALIENS. BRAWL IN MEL3OURNE. ATTACKERS RECEIVE INJURIES. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) Received October 30, 11.25 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. Two men, allegedly unionists, waylaid an Italian returning from work on the waterfront late last night. The men, however, were not aware of the presence nearby of other Italians, who responded to their countryman’s call for aid. In the ensuing brawl knives flashed and the tables were turned on the original attackers, who received several slashes requiring medical attention. The Italians disappeared. VOLUNTEERS AMBUSHED. ITALIAN KILLED tNMERCIFULLY MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. Groups of volunteer wharf workers were ambushed to-day at the Victoria Docks and other points. There were riotous scenes lasting for twenty minutes. Stones, fists and boots were used by the attackers. Ono Italian was kicked unmercifully on the ground. His assailant was captured by a plain clothes constable. Five volunteers were treated in hospital. All were Italians.. One sustained serious head injuries. The police charged with batons and scattered the attackers and then rushed away to similar scenes elsewhere. Eventually they restored peace and order. The police estimate . that 400 men carried out the assaults. BOMB OUTRAGES. ITALIAN CONSUL INCENSED. MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. The Italian Consul is incensed at the bomb outrages. He declared that the Italian community was enormously excited and demanding drastic measures for the protection of Italian workers. The Consul added: “This is the fifth attempt on the lives of my peoplel I therefore demand full satisfaction for my countrymen. My Government is not disposed to tolerate this failure adequately to protect Italian residents in Australia. If action is not taken immediately, they will be forced to take measures to protect themselves.” The Police Commissioner stated today that the police were straining every nerve to stop the outrages. Cabinet to-morrow will consider raising the reward from £SOO to £IOOO for information leading to the conviction of the bomb throwers.
