FIRE NEAR WAIMATE.
HOMESTEAD DESTROYED
Per Press Association. WAIMATE, Aug.. 14. . “Te Waimate,” the homestead residence of Mr E. C. Studholme, two miles from Waimate, was destroyed by fiije this morning, the occupants, a governess and the maids, escaping safely- , Mr and Mrs Studholm were absent in Christchurch. The house and furniture are believed to be insured for an amount in the vicinity of £6OOO. The homestead was linked with the early history of the district, the first building erected, on the estate being a small cottage-built ih 1854 by Messrs John and Paul Studholme.
