YOUNG PEOPLE’S DEMONSTRATION.

As is usual with all young people’s demonstratiions, tho Salvation Army Citadel on Saturday night was filled to its utmost capacity when a unique entertainment was presented by the different sections of the young people’s departments of Feikling, AA’oodville, Terrace End, Milson Line and Palmerston North Corps. Colonel Knott presided at all the special meetings. The programme was well arranged and tho performers’ work highly creditable and enjoyable. Tho children presented a pleasing spectacle ns they were arranged together for tho mass singing, which was a feature of the evening, much praise being due to Mr H. Jackson for training the children. Major Gray, who was responsible for the entertainment, arranged a varied and diverse programme which contained no 'tedious intervals. The audience were quick to realise the ability of tho young performers and if tho applause accorded them is any criterion tho demonstration was an outstanding success. The items were all concerted and there was enthusiasm throughout tho whole programme. Prior to tho initial item, Colonel Knott briefly spoke. Tho programme was then proceeded with and a most impressive and realistic item entitled “The Secret of Man’s Greatness” was given by Feilding. Moving in rhythm in tho tableau, “Abou-ben-Adhem,” the Feilding corps and their outpost showed by- the precision of their action and’ tho excellent singing their ability to interpret such an item. The Palmerston North Guards, who are always aggressive in all they do, provided excellent items which met with sincere approval. Terrace End and AA’oodville corps were well represented, _ the club drill from the latter being given with regular movements and the singing of Hie former called for much applause. The local sunbeam brigade presented a pretty spectacle in the item. “Sunbeam Fairies.” Milson Line juniors and guards, as they revealed the theme of “AVhat Will the Child Become?” translated the item into realism. The following constituted tho programme submitted: United song and chorus. “Up in the Firing Line,” juniors; prayer, Colonel Knott; united song and chorus, “The AYide, AVide AVorld for Jesus,” juniors; Scripture reading; Palmerston North chums, “Physical Jerks”; Feilding corps and outpost, “The Secret of Man’s Greatness,” with vocal trio; Palmerston Noith sunbeams, “Sunbeam Fairies”; Palmerston North, guards. “Calisthenics”: Feilding corps and outpost. “Lending a helping hand”; AVoodville corps, “Dialogue” ; Palmerston North Guards, “Nihon No Kogun,” Japanese march; Feilding corps, “Statuary”: Mil-oil’s Lino young people, “AA’hat Will the Child Become?”; Palmerston North guards, “The ten A'irgins” : Feilding Corps and and outpost. “The Temperance Engine” ; Terrace End young people, “Singing Lulu” : Palmerston North guards, song, “S-eo our Oars ivith Feathered Sprav”; AVoodville corps, club drill; Feilding corps, “Abou-ben-Adhem.”

Lieutenant-Colonel Carmichael spoke a few words of thanks and appreciation to all who had so ably assisted to make - the programme such a success, especially tho lighting effects which were excellent. Present amongst the audience was Adjutant Nelson, a former missionary officer of China but now divisional young people’s secretary at Christchurch.
