SPORTS ASSOCIATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, July 31. A committee meeting of the Foxton United Sports Association was presided over by Mr W. T. Jewell A letter was received from the secretary of the late Hastings Motor Club asking for a donation towards a rider who was disabled at the Foxton meeting/—lt was resolved to write tho N.Z.A.C.U. Benevolent Fund asking thorn to pay £lO to the rider on behalf of tho Foxton Club to bo refunded after tho forthcoming meeting as tho club's surplus funds were invested in Post Office bonds and it had no liquid assots at present. Mr R. McMurray was elected assistant secretary. Mr McMurray brought forward a scheme in connection with tho nominations. He said that several clubs mado tho nomination and acceptance covered for £1 for the whole of the events, 10s with nomination and tho balanace to bo paid before racing. After a lengthy discussion it was decided that the delegate bring the matter before tho conference. PLUNKET SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society was presided over by Mrs F. Robinson. Tho receipts from Mr I. Corn’s weighing machino totalled 3s 7d for the month. Mrs Walton was appointed visitor for the month and Mrs F. Robinson flower steward. Remits for the conference wore submitted and the local delegates were empowered to use their discretion in voting on same. Tho advisory board reported that inquiries were being made regarding the new building which would be discussed at a later meeting. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Tho annual congregational meeting of the Presbyterian Church was held on Monday evening when there was a satisfactory attendance. Iji tho absence of tho Moderator, Rev. G. T. Brown, Rev. W. H. Nicholas presided. A welcomo was extended to Mr and Mrs Stevenson and family, who have taken up their residence in Foxton. Mr Stevenscfi, who is an elder of tho church, consented to officiate in that capacity locally. The secretary (Mr John Ross) submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure for the year, which disclosed an improved position over last year. The financial position was discussed and spocial mention mado of the assistance rendered by the Ladies’ Social Guild. A good response had been made to tho freewill offerings and the envelope system and ordinary collections remained about the. same.

The minister’s report reviewed the work of the year and stated, inter alia, that the week-night combined services had been abandoned; services had been conducted at the seaside; the Sabbath school was progressing satisfactorily but two miore teachers wero required to copo with the work; a fortnightly cottage meeting was held at the home of Mrs Barber, senr., Lady’s Mile; thanks were accorded members for donations and special work. Messrs Hornblow and Barron, on behalf of the congregation, paid tributes to tho faithful work of tho minister and Mrs Nicholas during the year. Roports were received and favourably commented upon from the P.W.M.U. and the Ladies’ Social Guild.

The outgoing committee with tho following additions were unanimously re-elected: —Messrs Nicholls (Oroua Downs), George, Couch, Judd and Mesdames Thomson, Barron, McEwen and Satherley. The election of secretary and treasurer was referred to tho committee. Mr Couch was elected choirmaster, and it was decided to hold an evensong service once a month. Votes of thanks were passed to the Ladies’ Social Guild, P.W.M.U., organist (Miss Patterson), Sunday school teachers and office-bearers. At the conclusion of tho meeting a social hour' was spent and supper dispensed. Members of the local Masonic Lodge paid a fraternal visit to Lodge Taia, Wellington, on Saturday evening and wero most hospitably entertained by tho city brethren. The visitors wero taken for a most interesting motor tour' prior to their departure. The city brethren will pay a return visit to Foxton in October.
