OROUA DOWNS.

COMING OF AGE FESTIVITIES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Juno 12. Highways and byways for many miles led to tho Memorial Hail, Oroua Downs, on Friday evening last, when a delightful dance was given by Mr and Mrs A. Sexton and Mr and Mrs J. Funncll to celebrate the coming of ago of their sons, Lance Sexton and Darcy Funnell. Upwards of three hundred guests attended, and nearly a hundred ears wero parked in tho vicinity fo the ball. Friends from Palmerston North, Foxton, Mastertou, Rangiotu, Bainesse,- Longburn, Taikorea and Glen Oroua were present, some of whom were puls of their cradle, days. Amongst their friends the “boys” are helti in high esteem and in the field. of sport both enjoy their sharo of popularity. Mrs A. Sexton received her guests in a charming dross of cyclamen georgette trimmed with silver. Airs J. Funnell wore black morocaino with white relief and Miss Dulcie Sexton shell pink taffeta and pearls. During tho evening Mr A. Clark, of Palmerston North, spoke on behalf of the company for tho most enjoyable function and referred to tho good fellowship existing between the young men and their friends and paid a high tributo to tho mothers of both boys. Apologies were received from Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., and Mr J. Linklater, M.P., who v/.ore engaged elsewhere that evening. Items wero rendered by Air Corko, Air Chapman and Aliss Pritchard and were much appreciated. A sumptuous supper was provided and everyone’s needs were well catered for. Mr 'J'. Grammer acted as M.C. and tho dance music was supplied by a professional orchestra. Air J. Newton, Air G. Millard and Miss Mclvenzio played extras. During the day, friends of the families tastefully decorated the building with greenery, scarlet and gold festoons and multi-coloured balloons, etc. Cards were available for nondancers and altogether tho evening ranks amongst one of the largest and nicest ever Bold, tho many friends will always remember their . hosts’ and hostesses’ hospitality.
