THE COMPETITIONS. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Allow me a few lines please to congratulate the non-winners to date. As one “who also started,” there is a certain amount of disappointment naturally, but remember what training we have had out of it and how much more efficient we are now than wo were a

fow months ago. In this fact Ire our consolation—that we are progressing, and will win out next time. Remember, anybody can take a win in the right spirit, but it requires a true sport to take a loss. Wishing the competitions and non-winners every success.—l am, etc. ALSO STARTED. WELLINGTON’S ELEVENTH FESTIVAL. The syllabus for the eleventh annual festival of the Wellington Competitions Society has been issued and is obtainable gratis from any music warehouse, or it will be posted direct on application to the secretary, on enclosing one penny stamp for postage. The syllabus this year shows a distinct advance in the classes, which have been inserted, the most important of these being mouth-organ solos, string quartets, business firms’ choirs, church choirs and country dances. The church choir classes are strictly limited to bona lido members of such choirs, bona fide members to mean those who have been in active association with the choir for a period of three calender months prior to September Ist, 1923. The country dances, which will ho held for the first time in New Zealand, arc a most attractive item of the English festivals. Entries will close on June 26.
