“VOICE OF MANAWATU.”

HEARD IN AUSTRALIA

THE WONDER STATION.”

The Manawatu Radio Club’s broadcasting station 2ZF has often been called by listeners in various parts of New Zealand “the wonder station,”

considering that it lias a power ot only 50 watts, and letters of congratulation continue to arrive every week from listeners who enjoy the transmissions all over New Zealand. This week’s mail brought letters from listeners, asking for request items to be put on again, from Te Awamutu, burton and Hawera. But the officials of the club were surprised and. delighted to-day to get two letters from Australia—one from Mr Gordon, of Boisdalo, Nontli Gippsland, Victoria, reporting the reception, and the other from Mr K. L. Williams, Arcoona station, via Pimba, South Australia, which the writer states is over 350 miles nonth-west of Adelaide. This listener in South Australia picked up 2ZF at great strength at 5.15 p.ni. (N.Z. is two hours ahead of South Australian time) on 18th April, and lie states inter aha : “I was really listening for 2ZM, which I had heard the previous Wednesday, and was somewhat confused when I heard tho call sign 2ZF (2ZM must have been confused with call letters 2ZF). Static was very bad indeed, but 1 logged the station at 5.15 p.m., nearly an hour before sunset, and after dark the strength was about R B—9 (10 is maximum).” Mr Williams also gives the items of the programme, which have been verified by reference to the club’s log books. The achievement of the local club in getting its programme so far afield (over 2000 miles) on such low power is most creditable. The programme from 2ZF to-night will be a new departure in that the bulk of the items will be put on the air by a party of 12 artists from Feilding.
