Although the opening daj of tb®, Rugby season in the Manawatu : found numerous stoppages .in games owing to players sustaining , juries, not one serious mishap «as re ported. However, such a toitunnte position of affairs did not contnue on Saturday, two senior players SUS £R" ing injuries which threaten to UeP them both out of the game for‘ time at least. In the one. instance, Sutherland, a promoted junior . lc P r ? sentative player, who was figuring the wing three-quarter positron Uk Oil Boys seniors, had a bone in lower portion of his foot bioken., the 1 being plainly audible to many ot H e spectators oji the grandstand and he had .to be carried off the field of P J- , It could not be ascertained what was tho exact nature of the injury at thtime, and he was ordered to have the] Tlie game at Feilding between Woodville and Feilding Old. Boys was likewise marred by an untortuna mishap, Peebles, of tho former fifteen, and Heard of the home team, coming into violent collision, the force ot the knock Peebles received rendering him unconscious. He was brought through to the Palmerston North Hospital whore enquiry to-day elicited the information that he had only partlj regained consciousness and was still seriously ill. . , „ Playing for Kaierau seniors at Wanganui on Saturday, Glengarry had a kneecap broken, while Glenn sustained a broken wrist. At Wellington, E. P. Walker, while playing- with the Poneke intermediate . team, fractured his right ankle, being admitted to hospital. . ... Two mishaps on the playing iielci are reported from Shannon where two members of the Foxton junior team met with injuries, R. G. Findlay sustaining a broken collar bone and H. Taylor a head injury. Neither is expected to re-enter tho field this season.
