INDIAN COMMISSION.

PARLIAMENTARY MEMBERS

QUESTION OF RETAINING SEATS

Received January 21, 12.30 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 20. Lord Birkenhead expressed the hope yesterday that the political parties would not challenge the seats in Parliament of the members of the Indian Statutory Commission. The members of the commission, he pointed out, wero drawn from all three parties and for the next two or three years they must be primarily occupied with their immense anxiety of their work.

Newspapers point out that a similar opinion was favoured in the lobbies of Parliament last session, and the view was firmly held that the members of the commission should be allowed to bo returned unopposed at the general election.—British official wireless.
