Referring to the European situation, the Foreign Secretary, Sir Austen Chamberlain, commenting on the progress that has been made during recent years, said that the British Government had consistently worked for the appea.sement of quarrels and for reconstruction at home and abroad. Not merely were the allies of a few years ago as closely bound in friendship and confidence as they were in the height of war, but they were cooperating with the spirit of those days in order to repair the injuries of war.—British official wireless.
