NAVAL CONSTRUCTION.
FURTHER MODIFICATION.
BRITAIN’S INTENTION
Received January 21, 1.5 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 20. The Cabinet has now completed its review of the new construction programme for the years 1927-28 and 1928-29. Cabinet has decided that, in addition to the deletion, already announced, of two of the three cruisers belonging to the financial year 1927-28, the programme as set forth in a White Paper of July 27, 1925, shall be further modified by omitting one of the three cruisers intended to be begun in the financial year 1923-29. Three cruisers in all have therefore been reduced from a full programme. The type of the two cruisers to be begun at the end of the financial year 1928-29 is not yet finally settled.—British official wireless.
