AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

(Special to “Standard.”-) FEILDING, Nov. 28. The adjourned annual meeting of the Feilding Amateur Athletic Club was held last night, Mr H. Parsonage presiding. The meeting went into committee to discuss the balance-sheets, which had been submitted, and also to consider a report by the auditor, Mr J. E. Barltrop, -concerning tho first statement ho had audited. The matter was referred to the committee to act in conjunction with the treasurer, secretary and auditor to draw up a complete statement. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. Groombridge; vice-presi-dent, Mr H. Parsonage; secretary, Mr A. Pearse; treasurer, Mr J. Rosoman; handicapper, Mr S. Amadio; starter, Mr Parsonage; committee, Messrs Lourie, Wildbore. Chesterfield, Scotney and Miller; auditor, Mr J. E. Barltrop. The appointment of a delegate to the Manawatu Sub-Centre was left to the committee. \ BOWLING.

The Feilding Bowling Club’s green on Saturday was the scene of an exciting contest for the Dixon Cup between a rink from the Levin Club and a local rink. The challengers had a lead of nine points before Feilding started scoring, but on the 13tli head the score was 11 all. On the 18th head the holders were three down,_ but on the 20th head they had regained the lead by one point and were lying winners with the last bowl by Suhan, the Levin skip, to go. It was a perfect shot, however, and the cup passed into the possession of Levin by one point. The rinks were as follow: —Levin, Hbldaway, Bull, Clements, Suhan (skip) 18 v. Feilding, Ross, J. Bartholomew, Quayle, Herdman (skip) 17. The Feilding team lias played 16 games for the Dixon Cup with two losses and the victory of Levin was greeted with hearty cheers. Manawatu has the next challenge in for the cup. To encourage a spirit of friendly rivalry between the Feilding and Oroua Clubs, Mr H. Smithers has presented a challenge cup which is to be played for twice during the season, with the full eight rinks, once on each club’s green. The first contest will be held on the Oroua green next Saturday afternoon. GOLF. The prize winners of the Feilding Ladies’ Golf Club during the past season were presented with their trophies on Saturday by Mrs L. Gorton as follow:—Championship, Mrs H. Trophies for reduction in handicap were donated by Mrs Miles, Mrs Dixon, Mrs L. Gorton and Mr McKenzie and were won by Mrs Salmond, Mrs Drew, Miss Entwisle and Mrs Bramwell. DEATH OF MR R. MONTGOMERY. The late Mr R. Montgomery, of Manchester Street, Feilding, whose death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Sunday morning, came to New Zealand with the 17tli battery Royal Artillery, during the Maori War and after the trouble had been settled arrived in Feilding in 1876. For many years he worked in and around Feilding and was chiefly in the employ of Mr J. G. Cobbe. Deceased had been ailing for some ’time prior to entering the hospital about a month ago. A widow and one daughter (Mrs J. Russell, Palmerston North) are left to mourn their loss. BIBLE SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Feilding branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was'held last night,.Mr C. E. Taylon presiding over a small attendance of members. The chairman reviewed the work of the society for the year and mentioned that the total revenue for the year would amount to about £400,000 of which amount New Zealand had contributed £7991, probably a record. The contribution of Feilding at the end of the present month would amount to £6O which was also a record and was largely due to the work of the ladies’ auxiliary. The branch secretary . (Mr A. J. Kellow) then submitted a financial report of the branch after which Rev. A. Mitchell addressed the gathering on the work of the society during the past century. The following officers for the ensuing year were elected: —President, Mr C. E. Taylor (re-elected); secretary, Mr A. J. Kellow; committee. Messrs G. J. Fitzpatrick, T. Watson iand E. Hassell. A vote of thanks to the ladies’ auxiliary was passed and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of congratulation to Mr D. Galder, Dominion secretary, on his appointment as New Zealand representative at the world conference of | the Society at Jerusalem. PERSONAL. Mr A. Purdie, chief auditor of the Public Tfust Office, visited Feilding yesterday on official business. SOCIAL FUNCTION. A very pleasant social function was held at the residence of Mrs Pratt, Kimbolton Road, Feilding, yesterday afternoon when a large number of friends assembled to bid good-bye to Mrs H. G. Shakes, who is shortly leaving Feilding with her husband for Wellington. In presenting the guest with tokens of the esteem in which her friends hold her, the Mayoress (Mrs E. Fair) spoke of the unselfish manner in which Mrs Shakes had always responded Ho any call on her services. During her six years’ residence in Feilding Mrs Shakes had endeared herself to a large circle of friends who would be extremely sorry to lose one who possessed such talents. On behalf of the large number of friends present, Mrs Fair then presented Mrs Shakes with a set of silver fish knives and forks, an oak cakestand and plates, a pair of 6olid silver serviette rings, and an autograph album and wished her every happiness

in her new home. Mrs Shakes feelingly thanked those present for the gifts and their expressions of goodwill. , Among those present wore Mrs E. Fair, Mrs R. Hangar, Mrs N. C. Harding, Mrs L. J. Wild, Mrs A. Kingston, Mrs P. G. Miles, Mrs A. E. Sandford, Mrs E. H. Brewer, Mrs G. Dixon, Mrs J. E. Jenkinson, Mrs Kingston (Hamilton), Mrs Colquhoun, Mrs D. Bell, Mrs C. Webster, Mrs A. J. Drew, Mrs K M. Little, Mrs J .Graham, Mrs V." E. Smith, Mrs G. H. Davey, Mrs J Tingey, M.rs' G. J. Fitzpatrick, Mrs G. Kilvington, Mrs W. Morris and many others. During the afternoon solo vocal items were rendered by Mrs Shakes and Mrs Graham who also sang duets. The serving of a dainty afternoon tea brought a pleaant function to a close.
