PREMATURE EXPLOSION.
, TWO MEN KILLED

A blasting accident, which resulted in tlie deatiis of two men, Andrew lvydd and William Ilopwood, oceurred at tlie railway duplication works near Rsivensbourne at 4.20 p.m. to-day. The accident was due to a premature explosion. Kydd was a married man, aged about 59 years, with a grown-up family. He resided at Sawyer’s Bay and was employed by the Railway Department as a casual quarryman. He was killed outright. Hopwood, who received serious injuries to the head and fnco, was taken to hospital, where he died at 7.30 p.m. Hopwood was a ganger employed by the Railway Department and aged about 46. His wife lives at Riverton. An inquest will be held.
