Comment on the high wages demanded by seamen was made by tho chairman of tho Manawatu provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union (Mr 0. P.' Lynch) at the monthly meeting of that body this morning. The wages, ho stated, were out of all proportion to the value cf the work done and acted detrimentally to the interests cf the primary producers. Chaff, he mentioned, cost nearly double in the North Island what it did in the South, due to the high handling charges. "It shows the need for a union to protect the farmer,” said Mr J. A. McLeavey.
