WORLD’S LARGEST BATTLESHIP.

RODNEY LEAVES THE MERSEY.

LONDON, Aug. 13. Britain’s £7,000.000 battleship Rodney, tho world’s largest, has left the Mersey (where she was built) for Portsmouth in order to undergo gunnery and speed trials. The Rodney’s keel was laid in 1922 and the vessel was launched in 1925. She carries nine sixteen-incli guns. H.M.S. London will be launched at Portsmouth dockyard on September 14. She is a 10,000 ton cruiser of the county class, and was laid down under the 192526 programme. The previous London was a 15,000-ton battleship and was launched 28 years ago.—A. and N.Z. cable.
