LONGBURN SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The regular monthly meeting of the Lo lgburn School Committee was hold on Monday evening last, Mr A. Mellor presiding. There were also present: Messrs C. Palmor, W. Weddell, P. Meehan, T. Swenson, A. Sanson and J. Mahoney (secretary). The headmaster (Mr Hills) reported that the roll number now stood at 150, with an average of 136. The attendance was more irregular than in the past. During the month Inspectors Law and Crawford had visited the school. Miss Piercy, infant teacher, was absent on account of illness. Tho school gramophone had been received and a few records were also to hand. Cocoa was now being made daily for the benefit of pupils. Ihe secretary was instructed to write to the board pointing out that the committee would be prepared to paint the pavilion and fences if paint were supplied. It was resolved to' write to Miss Piercy expressing sympathy with her in her illness and conveying the committee’s wish for a speedy return to normal health. A vote of thanks was accorded Meusrs Weddell and Meehan for their good work in putting the school sanitary system in order. Two full holidays were granted the pupils for the Winter Show. The matter of installing electric light was held over, the committee considering that the Power Board’s minimum rate of £3 per pear was too high for country schools. The question of a man being employed to do work in the school grounds was loft in the hands of the secretary with jiower to act. Accounts totalling £3 4s lOd were passed for payment.
