MOTOR COLLISION
DRIVER APPEARS IN COURT. FINE IMPOSED AND LICENSE SUSPENDED. “When he got out of the car-'he did not seem to know what he was doing or where he was,” stated Senior-Ser-geant O’Grady in the Court this morning when outlining the case of Angus George Gifkins, aged 22, a farm labourer of Pohangina Valley, who was charged with being while m charge of a motor car at Newbury last evening. Messrs S. Abraham and G. H. Bennett, J.P’s., were on the bench “At about a quarter to eight o clock last night accused was driving on the main road at Newbury and crossing from the right side of the road on to the wrong side, collided head on .vith a car driven by Air Ronald Turner, a gafage employee, of Palmerston North,” continued the Senior-Sergeant “Accused had two people with him and the other car had four occupants. Both vehicles were severely damaged.” Air S. Abrahams, the presiding Justjee: What have you to say about this? Accused : I came into the show, met a few friends and had a few drinks. “And you ran into a car,” added the Justice. “•Yes,” admitted accmsed. Mr Abrahams emphasised the seriousness of the offence which, he stated, magistrates were continually commenting on. “You will be fined £25, or two months in prison, and your license will be suspended for twelve months.”
