CARGO OF WHISKY.
LANDED AT PAPEETE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 23. Information has been revived in Auckland that a steamer en route for Australia called at Papeete on March 16 and landed into bond 31,000 cases of assorted liquors, mostly whisky. Since then a Canadian steamer loaded 10,600 cases of liquor at Papeete, presumably for Vancouver. Obviously the population of Papeete, 3600, would not justify such a shipment or absorb the 20,0.00 cases left after the Canadian order lias been fulfilled. Papeete’s nearness to Tahiti opens great opportunities as a base for rum running on the American Pacific coast.
