LEVEL CROSSING SMASH.
CORONER ADDS A RIDER. Per Press Association. TE KUITI, April 23. The adjourned inquest was held yesterday afternoon on the victims of the railway crossing accident of February 24 last, when George Mcllroy, his wife, and two children were killed. Alice Mary Gospodnetich, one of the occupants of the car at the time of the accident, gave evidence on similar lines to that given at the preliminary inquiry, which showed that the car was travelling at 15 miles per hour and the train at from 25 to 30 miles when the crash occurred. ‘ The enginedriver and the fireman gave corroborative evidence. Herbert Dick, the driver, - was of the opinion that the crossing was one of the most dangerous between Auckland and Taumarunui. The coroner brought in a_ verdict “that the deceased met their death by a car being struck by a train, no blame being attached to the driver of the train.” The coroner also added a rider, “that many motorists do not take sufficient care on railway level crossings.”
