H.S.O.G. BEAT BUNNYTHORPE. Only one hockey match was played under the auspices of the Manawatu Hockey Association on Saturday when High School Old Girls beat the Bunnythorpe eleven by eight goals to nil. In the first spell the losers were attacking most of the time but faulty work in the circle spoiled their efforts. W. Hanson and M. Godfrey played well for Bunnythoipe. For-H.S.O.G. M. Waters (centre-forward) netted six goals, while G. McKenzie ' (left wing) and J. Simpson (inside-right) secured one goal each. Mr A. E. Blackbourn refereed. , The visitors were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea by the Bunnythorpe ladies. W.E.O.G. forfeited to Rongotea, while a men’s match did not eventuate owing to the majority of the players not being present. LADIES’ MATCH AT FEILDING. OROUA SUB-UNION BEATEN. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A hockey match between Feilding ladies and the Oroua Sub-Union ladies’ team was played at Feilding on Saturday. The standard of play was not in any way up to representative form and the game' throughout was of rather a ragged nature. Oroua wero unlucky in not adding to their score, as their play on the whole was the better exhibition of hockefy. ' Oroua set up a strong attack and kept the green 3 busy defending for the first 10 minutes. Up and down play at last saw Feilding break ■away amh with a good forward rush penetrated the whites’ circle where, with a good clean hit, the Feilding captain, M. Amadio, goaled.—Feilding 1-0. Keeping up the pressure the greens again drove the Oroua combination back on their last line of defence and the attack was too strong to ward off, M. Amadio again finding the net with a decisive hit.—2-0. On the resumption after the interval play centred in midfield for a considerable period. Both sides tried to pierce the defence, but it withstood the assaults until Miss Cummerfield (Apiti) broke through the green defence to register Oroua’s first goal. Several times later the whites were on the verge of increasing their tally, but the heavy ground rendered clean play difficult. With about the best exhibition of stick work during the game, Feilding took the ball right through the -white pack into the circle from where the greens captain registered her third goal. Both sides were now obviously tired, no doubt from the heavy ground, and the play became rather slow and ragged. Time was sounded without an alteration in the score. RESULTS IN OTHER CENTRES.
