NEW SINGER.
ACCLAIMED AT COVENT GARDEN ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN SUCCESS. LONDON, June 24. Mr John Brownlee, of Geelong, made a striking success as _ Marcello in a performance of Puccini’s _ La Boheme, at Covent Gonlen to-night. Ho was the only non-Italian in the cast and had never played previously in that language, nor had ho played before in a full performance of opera. He sang beautifully, and acted the part of the artist with delightful gaiety. A large house warmly acclaimed the performance.—A. and N.Z. cable.
Mr Brownlee was a guest at Dame Melba’s birthday party in London recently. With the Diva, on that occasion, ho joined in several vocal numbers.
