EMPIRE SERVICE.
VISCOUNT CHELMSFORD’S OFFICE. NEW SOUTH WALES AGENTGENERAL. LONDON, June 15. The appointment of Viscount Chelmsford as Agent-General for New South Wales in London is the subject for further comments. The Graphic says: “Surprise is expressed at the appointment. Surely| that surprise springs from muddled views, perhaps even from snobbishness. (Surprise is altogether out of place; when a man who has known all the splendours of the Indian Vice-, /Royalty is installed as the London' agent of an overseas State. “Ho is on Empire service. That is all-sufficient. Tho supposed dignity or indignity of the thing can go hang!” _ ! Lord Chelmsford visited tho New. South Wales office to-day and met Mr. McTiernan and Mr Dunn, and was introduced to the executive members >f the staff. He visited each room to amiliarise himself with the routine md ' personnel.
